Course Description & DISTANCES

SWIM
Distance: 1500 Meters - Olympic | 400 Meters - Sprint
..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................

The swim will take place in the Atlantic Ocean off of Key Biscayne.  Even though it is an ocean swim, the water tends to stay very flat at Crandon due to the topography and location.  Olympic distance participants will swim down to the 5th buoy (yellow one) and back parallel to the shoreline, while Sprint distance participants will swim down to the 2nd buoy and back parallel to the shoreline.

Participants will encounter an aid station with drinks and food between the swim exit and the transition area.

There is a few hundred meter run from the swim exit to the transition entrance.  Shoes are not necessary.  The reason for the distance between the end of the swim and transition area is because the areas closer to transition are not deep enough for swimming.

BIKE
Distance: 40Km (24.8 Miles) - Olympic | 20Km (12.4 Miles) - Sprint
..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................

The cycling portion of the race will take athletes from Crandon Park west onto the Rickenbacker Causeway, including a 3 mile loop down Virginia Key. This course is the favorite training ground of all local triathletes. Be ready to awe at the magnificence of Biscayne Bay as you ride through the causeway. All bike traffic will stay on the outbound lane of the causeway which will be closed to vehicular traffic. Vehicular traffic will be diverted to the inbound lane.  It is a flat course except for the 76 foot tall William Powell bridge which you have to climb in each direction.

Olympic distance participants will do 2 laps on the bike, while sprint distance participants will only do 1 lap.

RUN
Distance: 10Km (6.2 Miles) - Olympic | 5Km (3.1 Miles) - Sprint
........................................................................................................................................................................................................................

The run consists of a 5K loop around Crandon Park and includes the entire paved stretch of the boardwalk by the beach for some unforgettable vistas!

Olympic distance participants will do 2 laps on the run, while sprint distance participants will only do 1 lap.
